Windows is one of the most widely used Operating System and as many times the PC is accessed by novice such as Children who are learning to use the PC, they might end up messing with the settings of Windows. Not just the novice but even some times due to a Malware or a bug with Windows in the latest update you might end up getting some or the other feature of the Windows to not work.

One of the similar bug found in Windows 10 includes Start Menu 10 not opening neither by click  on the icon or by the keyboard shortcut. The start menu is one of the most important place, and hides some of the important features of Windows which cannot be accessed easily without it. Most of the software installed on our system can only be accessed from the start menu as we might not have an icon on the Desktop.

Today we will be looking at a host of different solutions which you can use to solve the drastic issue. The solutions we will be giving will work not only when the start menu doesn’t shows up, but will even work when it freezes after it is open and you cannot perform any action.

Repair corrupt windows files

one of the main reason of Start Menu not working is due to some or the other corrupt files which might be messing with the normal working of the UI. In order to repair the files follow the steps:

  • Press Windows Key + R in order to launch the Run command
  • Type in “powershell” in the run dialogue box and open the powershell window.
  • Now type “sfc /scannow” this will scan all the windows files to check their health, if by any chance any file is corrupted it will then it will repair the files.
  • If the above command returns a result stating “Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some (or all) of them.” then you will have to enter the following command “DISM /Online/Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth”
  • Wait for the command to work and restart your System.

In most of the cases this solution will help you to get your start menu working as it was working earlier, but by any-chance if it is still not working then move to the next solution.

Reinstall all Windows Core Application

This is one of the best way to restore the Start menu, this will not reinstall the start menu files but will delete all the files which might mess with the working of the start menu and will restore them to the factory state. This method although might delete some of the data from these app.

  • type the following command and press enter: Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}
  • Now you will have to wait till the installation is complete, you might get a couple of errors which you can discard. Once the installation is done you will have to restart windows.

This is another solution which can easily solve the Start menu issue without you worrying about reinstalling or refreshing the windows installation. Some times there are problem with the configuration of your User Account which can messup and block you from using the Start Menu so you must also try accessing the Start Menu from another User Account. If these solutions also doesn’t seems to work then you might have to refresh your PC which will make you to loose all the personal data and application installations located in the C Drive.
